It was discovered that 3-4 people did a lot of ballot box stuffing in an attempt to give undue weighting to some of the responses; details
can be found on this post. On July 19th, I was able to largely remove the effects of this. A full discusion of my reasons and methods are detailed here.
As a result, I've had to implement a couple rules for the balloting as this goes forward. For the questions below, each IP is allowed only a single vote per every several days. This does make it a little clumsy for housholds or shared computer systems where multiple people may want to weigh in, but as is often the case, the selfishness and arrogance of a few results in limitations on the rest of us.

I have to say that I respectfully disagree with you when you say that the council has not done a serious improvement project. Since my first visit to Cedarlands in 2002 RTC has invested tens of thousands of dollars into the camp including repairing the dirt road up garden hill, the BBQ pavilion, The Aldercreek cabin, the new office, 2 climbing towers (yes the portable tower was purchased with money from the easement), new rifle range, and not to mention the countless repairs on all of the building that already exist.
The bottom line, the council in the last 6 years has invested a lot of our money to ensure that all 3 camps stay open and that the council grows and prospers. The question I ask all of you is what are you going to do to ensure that we can continue to invest in our camps? I think that the Timberhavest is a smart way to generate revenue in order to continue these projects. Our camps are relatively cheep to go to (compared to other scout camps in other areas of the country that charge $600-800 to go to per year). I would rather see our camp fees stay low but at the same time hire a good staff and invest in the camp than have kids who cannot afford to go to camp.
In short, if you cannot make it to the monthly meetings get out there and promote all 3 of our camps. Get boys to join cub scouts and boy scouts and lets concentrate on where we go from here. If you have friends from out of council, tell them on how awesome Cedarlands and Camp Russel is and encourage them to look into attending out camp.

| The fall beaver weekend has come and gone. About 15 people who truly care about the camp came and did a great job helping to make the camp better. It is funny how the people who complain about the managemant of the camp never seem to have the time to acutally do something to help make the camp better. 9/16 is program night and the camping committee will be meeting. If anyone has anything to say, let's get it out in the open then. Don't hide behind user names and forums. Let's talk. I was at camp for 6 weeks and never got a whiff of the petroleum odor. If anyone noticed something like that, why was it never mentioned at a leaders meeting at camp? I'm sorry but I am really getting POed at people running down a great scout camp like this.

| Scout mom is right in some ways but is confused in others. First, she is definitely right that there will be a regrowth in Cedarlands. However, for the trees that were there, we will most likely have to wait 40 years or more until we do see a regrowth. There is also a difference between logging and wildfires. While wildfires make the soil rich and ready for regrowth, logging leaves little in comparison for soil enrichment. The part that i question the most, however, is the last sentence about keeping the scout camps funded. I personally have never witnessed a serious improvement to a local scout camp. This may not be a bad thing as there is an amount of history present in the old structures that were built masterfully (usually about 30-60 years ago) and the treacherous roads. But, i have seen huge amounts of scout land sold to the state, speculators, and builders. All of these acres (incuding an entire local camp) would be fine if in fact we could see that they are doing great things in existing camps. So I would go far from suggesting that all the money from these logging contracts and land sell offs are going to fund the camps. We need to hold on to what we have and recognize that Ivory just might be right in saying that the council may need to rethink what they are doing.

| I may be wrong but I always thought foresting is a part of the process of aiding regrowth and providing space for it to grow in. I have seen the awful messes left behind right at our own camp a=on a private lake and also seen the regrowth process over five to ten years. It may seem horrible to look at now, but in the future it will be beautiful once again, just like the areas where volcanoes and wildfires take over nature, I believe this too will pass. And, if Council were to make a profit from this in order to keep all the scout camps fully funded, then so be it.
