A Wonderful Place...

These are just informal, unscientific, straw polls
to guage general reactions to the logging and measure the
level of awareness people may or may not have had about it.

Easy Survey

It was discovered that 3-4 people did a lot of ballot box stuffing in an attempt to give undue weighting to some of the responses; details can be found on this post. On July 19th, I was able to largely remove the effects of this. A full discusion of my reasons and methods are detailed here.

As a result, I've had to implement a couple rules for the balloting as this goes forward. For the questions below, each IP is allowed only a single vote per every several days. This does make it a little clumsy for housholds or shared computer systems where multiple people may want to weigh in, but as is often the case, the selfishness and arrogance of a few results in limitations on the rest of us.

If you'd like opportunity to give more detailed and thoughful commentary, please visit the forum. If all you're interested in is the summary of the survey questions, click here.

What was your reaction to the photos?
Definite improvement; long overdue
Ugly now, but will be better in the long run
No real reaction either way
I'm saddened, but can accept it
I'm shocked and angered

Scouts attending Cedarlands this summer are going to have an awesome week at camp. I am very excited that it is only a few weeks away! We have one of the best staffs assembled east of the Rocky Mountains. We have 4 NY State certified teachers (Myself included) on staff, Our Scoutcraft director will be attending SUNY ESF's Wilderness Education graduate program this upcoming fall. We have a pathfinder director that is second to none who loves working with the scouts. Our waterfront staff is AWESOME! Our Jr. staff is excited and cannot wait to get to camp. If you and the rest of your troop go into camp with a positive attitude I know with out a doubt that you will have one of the best weeks of camp you will ever have!

I cannot wait to see you there!

Wow I was quite impressed by the pictures. Things are looking really good! It was quite humorous to read sarcastic comments made about something that didn't look so bad. Great job volunteering while you were up trespassing!

I agree that everyone should take a look at the camp for themselves and draw their own conclusions about what's been done.

To help those that aren't up to the drive (220 miles round trip for me), I went there earlier today (6/8/08) and spent an hour and a half walking around, taking fresh pictures. You can find them through the link for "Photos" on the left.

Photos don't tell the whole story. Keep an open mind. Go to camp before forming an opinion. If you want loggers to remove trees, there will be skid paths. These will regrow.

Oh yeah... the forest is SO much better without those pesky trees in the way!

Shame on council for doing this. Now our new boys will never know the beautiful place that once was Cedarlands
